SGM's July Club of the Month BIGG DAWGZ of the 252
Interviewed: Earl B, President
Talking about giving back to the Community…SGM
shifted gearz with Bigg Dawgz of The 252 in North Carolina President
Earl B to get an understanding from his perspective of what giving
back to the community really means.
When & where did BIGG DAWGZ
of the 252 originate from? Can you give us a little history of how
this Co-ed club began? Prior to being President of Bigg
Dawgz of the 252, I (Earl B) coordinated and held many community
wide cookouts and events dating back to the mid 90’s in the
Greenville/Rocky Mount areas. In late 2007, the interest of being
part of the motorcycle community came int o
play. With the vision of continuing to give back to the community
through charity events, I, along with friends and family decided to
join forces and became a club known as BIGG DAWGZ of the 252
comprised of male and female riders. With the double G in BIGG
giving meaning to “doing things twice as big” and the 252 standing
for the Eastern North Carolina area code (Rocky Mt, Wilson,
Greenville) and we came out in January of 2008. By the time we had
our 1st Anniversary, we had a collaboration of 92 members.
Tell us about the diversity
amongst the members and how they all work together to reach a common
goal in servicing the community. This club was organized
to be something different from most clubs. The main reason BIGG
DAWGZ of the 252 came together was for the purpose of community
service and giving to the children. We are a very diverse group
because our club members are not just from the 252 area but from all
over: Greensboro, Raleigh, Henderson, & Washington, NC. Though we
all have our own separate lives, jobs and families outside of the
bike world, we are dedicated members working hard for the same cause
and taking time out to help families of the community. This was what
we all set out to accomplish from day one. One vision, one common
goal, to support and give back to the community.
So tell SGM Readers what do you feel has made you all stronger as a
club from when you first began? Once getting past the
trials of being a new club and establishing relationships amongst
the members, the efforts and hard work that all the members have
brought forth to motivate each other to do all that we can for our
community made all the difference in reaching our goals as a club.
Giving highlight to the recent BIGG DAWGZ Coookout/Bike Rally in
Greenville, NC, what motivates BIGG DAWGZ of the 252 to give back to
the community in this fast paced MC world? The growing
support from other MC’s and SC’s outside of our community that come
from other cities and participate in these events and genuinely want
to be involved in giving back to the community. We had over 300
bikes throughout the day support the BIGG DAWGZ of the 252 Cookout &
Bike Rally which was free to the public. Most importantly, the love
we have for the children and the community helps keep us grounded in
our vision and the gratitude that comes knowing we did a good thing
for the community. For example, I recall at one of our first
community cookouts, a man came up in the line and was asked what he
wanted on his plate and his reply was that he had not eaten in 3
days and he was thankful for anything he received. Now that was a
gratifying feeling to know that we were able to serve someone in
need to that degree. Since coming out in 2008, we have had several
major FREE events. We had a toy drive that gave us the opportunity
to give out over 500 toys to children at Christmas. We also gave a
$500 scholarship out for education. The only event we hold that is
profitable is our Anniversary and the proceeds from that allow us to
do all these events throughout the year that is free to the
community. We appreciated all the love that we got at our 1st
Anniversary where over 86 clubs from 7 different cities came to
support BIGG DAWGZ of the 252.
What would you like to see within the bike world now that is on a
more positive note than what it may have been a few years ago?
We would like to see more clubs coming together as one large body
for the sole purpose of supporting other communities as well as
giving back to their own community. It’s not just about going to MC
parties to support other clubs, but also to participate in community
events that reaches out those not in the MC world.
Taking notice that BIGG DAWGZ of the 252 is BIGG on giving back to
the community, is there any advice you would like to give to MC and
SC clubs that has made Charity and Community service so successful
for your organization? To give back not for personal
growth or profit but for the growth and benefit of the community.
Clubs should prioritize on community service and stay focused on
what the community needs are and set goals to fulfill those needs.
The positive message that your will be sending reaching out to the
community will in turn bring more supporters ready and willing to do
the same.
We thank you for the opportunity to letting us in on the inside
scoop within your community services. So with that being said
Motorcycle Community, if you CAN’T stump with the BIGG DAWGZ in
giving back to the community then STAY ON THE PORCH!!!
